LIT prides itself on its central educational philosophy of active learning. Active learning means all students have the opportunity to reach beyond the theory of their subjects and apply themselves to the practical demonstration of what they are learning. A quick glance at the range and level of professionalism displayed in the recipes on Foodle.ie is a tribute to the application of active learning at LIT. The students themselves have gone that extra mile showing future employers their level of accomplishment and commitment to their industry.
The entire project from its conception to the beautiful recipes and images you see on Foodle.ie was designed and managed by students of LIT as part of a major interdepartmental project. The project began with the second year students in Professional Cookery. The students each devised the recipes, worked through the design process and prepared and devised the concept for the food shot that appears with their recipe on Foodle.ie.
The web site and book reflect the areas that the students cover in the Professional Cookery Course, including different cookery styles (Culinary skills and standards) and special needs diets (Nutrition). The ‘One Pot Wonder’ dishes came from the students themselves – well, no student likes the idea of too much washing up! The focus of the areas was to make the web site appealing to all visitors, be they academics, non academics, students or someone looking for that unique, but easy-to-follow, recipe to impress their friends.
